Vincent's Story

This came about in a game of Malifaux against Geraint. Vincent, as he often does, went from murder machine, to prime target, and I ended up writing about it on Discord after.

  1. I'm not an author this is just a bit of fun
  2. Not claiming what Seamus does is cool or funny
Vincent now looks like a Ghost Robin Hood, instead of his earlier 'Angriest Man in Malifaux' style.

Vincent St Clair was excited. He'd spent so long as Reva Cortinas' henchman at the cult(correction, not a cult), just... dealing with things, especially while she was away. But today, when rumours were around that Seamus of all people was in town, she sent him off up the board.

Vincent spies a Doxy, before gunning her down.

He spied an undead. You could always tell by the walk. Ah, that's like my time at the Guild, brings back happy memories, despite how it all ended. He starts shooting with his Death-Touched Crossbow, he gets fancy with running and gunning, doing some expert climbing to hit her from above. Damn, Vincent, you're so much more mobile than in the last Edition! She drops. She?! This zombie was quite... alluring. Must be one of Seamus's doxies!

Vincent feels great, better than he has in years. He loves the Luminary, he believes in the work that he is helping Reva do, it's just... sometimes... it's nice to shoot undead... not to have to think... Then he catches a flash of living bosom, a beautiful, confident woman and... Snakes for hair? Can I hear some Whispers in the Dark?

is it Strange this Lady has snakes for hair?

All of a sudden he's running back and... why am I shooting at Reva? It's like this Strange Lady can make people Obey her. Luckily he misses. He doesn't know what has happened. Vincent is not a man to express emotion, he never has been. But he wants to cry. To make it worse, Reva just looks at him with an indulgent smile, sitting sidesaddle on her horse, saving her activation to the end of the turn.

[interlude while a small ghost moves Vincent a little bit back towards the enemy]

Sybelle is not a Madame to mess with.

Then he sees Madam Sybelle. Not a foe to underestimate. A Juggernaut of the undead sex worker scene. More undead to shoot, great, that'll clear my head - he tries eagerly, but it doesn't work as well as before, it's like he can't aim as well, he can't see her properly, like she is Concealed somehow, but there's no terrain causing it. While he ponders it, he gets shunted to the side, he's not sure why, was someone moving him somehow?

Why, hello Love!

"Why, hello Love!", a lilting Irish accent greets him, jovially, but menacingly from behind him. He realises he is Alone in the Dark. The voice is Terrifying. He feels a knife start to slice his skin... and then... a blankness. He can finally rest. But then he hears something drawing him back, like a Whisper at first, but then he starts to feel what must be the Grave Spirit's Touch.

Later, Vanessa wakes up. She'd had a dream she was an exorcist called Vincent. But if so, why is she dressed...like this? She only knows she needs to try and make some money for Seamus. She looks around for Men... or any customer, and sees a scary voodoo looking guy who appears to be Eating a Ghost. Is he familiar? Didn't they used to be friends? In the before times? Her brain isn't working. She hails him as flirtatiously as she can. He looks at her with glowing eyes and raises his hands. She sees Ghosts flying towards her, a Spectral Assault and then nothing more.

Reva is understanding. Even when some Strange Lady makes her best friend shoot at her. Even when Vincent Dies, she just smiles in a slightly spooky way, and carries on her work.
